Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

Our office does not bill insurance. You may pay by check, credit card, or HSA debit card. Upon request, we can provide you with a copy of the superbill which you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement for out-of-network care. The superbill is a detailed medical receipt that contains procedure codes, diagnosis codes, and the fees charged for your office visit. We cannot guarantee what reimbursement, if any, you may receive. We do not submit claims or call insurance companies directly. This is the responsibility of the patient.
We do not participate with Medicare, nor do we bill Medicare for any services rendered. A patient can NOT submit superbills to Medicare for possible reimbursement.

Do you offer payment plans?

No, at this time we do not offer any payment plans.

Why don’t you accept insurance?

Unfortunately, when doctors participate with insurance carriers, they enter into a contract that allows the insurance companies to dictate what services will be supplied, limiting the quality of care that we believe you deserve. As the costs of keeping a clinic running has continued to rise, reimbursement has fallen, forcing most doctors to see more and more patients a day, keeping office visits very brief. We believe this approach of seeing patients for shortened visit times does not allow us to create the personalized plan of care that is necessary in a functional or integrative approach.
It is not the responsibility of NOLA Functional Medicine to understand your individual insurance coverage.

Who is a typical NOLA Functional Medicine patient?

We care for children and teens whose families want to take a proactive role in their health. Some of our patients are living with chronic conditions such as ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, asthma, eczema, autoimmune issues, or digestive concerns. These families are often looking for more than symptom management—they want to understand and address the root causes of their child’s struggles so healing can begin from the inside out.

Other families come to us because their child “just doesn’t feel right.” Even when lab results look normal, kids may still struggle with fatigue, poor sleep, mood swings, brain fog, or difficulty focusing. Using advanced diagnostic testing and a whole-child approach, we look deeper to uncover what’s driving these challenges.

Our goal is to support lasting improvements in health and well-being. We work closely with families—and in collaboration with pediatricians and specialists—to create personalized plans that help children thrive.

What do treatments entail?

At NOLA Functional Medicine, treatment begins with the foundations of a healthy lifestyle. We focus on areas that are especially important for children and teens—nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, and supportive relationships. When needed, we may recommend natural options such as herbs or supplements to gently support the body. In some cases, prescription medications are used, depending on the severity of symptoms or medical needs.

This holistic approach blends the best of both eastern and western medicine while keeping your child’s safety and well-being at the center. Every care plan is personalized, guided by your child’s unique needs, and created in partnership with families. Above all, we value the trusting relationship between provider, child, and parent—because healing happens best when families feel supported, respected, and understood.

Are you my primary physician?

No, you are required to have a primary care physician. Dr. Adams offers functional medicine consultation only and does not function as your primary care physician. You must have a primary care physician for yearly physicals, wellness visits and for after hours or urgent care purposes.
